Our Police and Emergency Service clients work incredibly long hours and deal with immense pressures daily. Due to the nature of working shifts, managers found it extremely difficult to schedule in meaningful one-to-one’s or wellbeing conversations and previous paper-based PDR systems made it virtually impossible for HR or OD to put in talent management processes with such limited visibility.

Using Actus PDR system to move online has enabled our Emergency Services Clients to hold ongoing and meaningful conversations on the move – it is possible to update CPD or grab a short one-to-one during a lull in call-outs or while ‘bed-blocked’ in an ambulance bay. Documenting these conversations regularly relieves the pressures at the end of the year making the PDR process more meaningful.

Through our detailed work with Merseyside Police and South East Coast Ambulance Trust we have been able to identify and support the priorities around PDR for these clients and build in specialist features such as ‘Quick CPD’ or ‘Supervision/121 on the move’. A PDR system in this environment needs to be light touch, intuitive, mobile-friendly and accessible 24/7 and Actus is able to deliver that. Actus PDR system has been designed specifically to align with the requirements of the College of Policing in terms of tracking CPD and supporting the policing professional framework.

Particularly popular within the police force is the recognition and feedback module which can create a real sense of camaraderie between staff and provides a forum to recognise each other’s efforts and for these to be visible at PDR time. Often line managers will not see their staff from one month to the next and so having a record of this additional information is helpful in ensuring objectivity at PDR time.

South East Coast Ambulance Trust have found the 360 feedback module invaluable as part of their cultural development programme as well as the ability to use Actus on the move – in ambulance bays for example.
